The FBI has released a cybersecurity advisory regarding recent threats targeting users of popular email services, such as Microsoft Outlook and Google Gmail.
According to a recent advisory from the FBI and cybersecurity agencies, a ransomware group known as Medusa has been actively targeting numerous sectors, including technology, legal, medical, and manufacturing. Since its identification in June 2021, Medusa has affected over 300 organizations, putting sensitive data at risk.
To protect yourself from potential cyber threats, we highly recommend the following precautions:
- Use Strong Passwords: Ensure all your accounts are protected with strong, unique passwords that you update regularly.
- Enable Multifactor Authentication: Adding this layer of security can significantly reduce the chances of unauthorized access.
- Maintain Backups: Develop copies of your sensitive data, utilizing both hard drives and cloud solutions. Ensure these backups are encrypted and stored offline whenever possible.
- Stay Informed: Regularly update your operating systems and software to patch vulnerabilities.
- Be Cautious of Suspicious Links: If you inadvertently open a phishing link or attachment, do not dismiss the incident. Seek assistance to investigate any potential security breach as soon as possible.
